Happy Ground Hog Day! by stray_shooter

Happy Ground Hog Day!

It's Ground Hog Day in the U.S. My gopher thinks he's a ground hog.
Ha ha. The movie Groundhog Day has just been on the television here for about the 10th time.

A plush Ground Hog would be funny enough, but a gopher??? Very cute...really!

Did your rodent see his shadow or not? Bet he didn't bite you like one of the groundhogs bit the town mayor.

This is lovely. What is Groundhog Day?

Great fun capture Ron, Hopefully he didn't take your lighting for the sun and go back in his hole for the next 6 weeks lol:)

Oh crap. And now we're back to toy shots. Did he bite your ear?

@onewing I love that movie! I trust you watched all ten times? ;-) Thanks for the comments, Babs.

@Weezilou It should be no surprise to you, Louise, that this is actually a golf club head cover. What you don't see here is that he's holding a golf ball between his front paws. I guess it's a play on the Caddyshack gopher - one of my favorite movie characters ever!

@lyndemc Oh, man, I saw that! Probably payback for the mayor last year that dropped the ground hog (who subsequently passed away due to the injuries). I guess if the groundhog bites you you're in for 17 more weeks of winter plus a little fire and throw in some brimstone for good measure. I hope the ground hog did not see his shadow along the banks of the Mighty Muddy!

@opticlens Ground Hog Day is one of our most cherished holidays in America, Sarah! ;-) As the legend goes, in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the local critter, Punxsutaney Phil, crawls out of his hole on Feb 2, and his emergence determines how much longer winter will last. If it's sunny and he sees his shadow, he gets frightened and goes back in the hole, thus six more weeks of winter. If it's cloudy and he doesn't see his shadow he stays out and we all take comfort in the fact that winter will soon be over. It's total rubbish, of course, but it does lead to fun things like mayors getting bitten and great movies!

@pcoulson Well there ya go, I just laid out the whole story for Sarah and I could have just said "ask Peter!" To be honest I don't know what the result was, and I just happened to be immersed in a fair amount of snow at the time. In California it doesn't mean a whole lot to us. ;-)

@terryliv That story got all the way to Oz?!? Awesome! I'm afraid you're going to have to brace for even more photos of toys from me, although as I mentioned to Louise, this is actually a head cover for my driver and just out of view is the golf ball he's holding. Better?

@stray_shooter Must have been a slow news day hey? And yes, that does make it more acceptable

И что предсказал сурок в этот раз? скорее бы весна...
February 11th, 2015
Thanks for the explanation, I've always wondered!
