I posted a photo of palm trees with snow capped mountains in the background last year, which was a daylight photo. This is a slightly different view, but taken at sundown. There are only a few days a year in Southern California where you can capture such images, but it's been a little extended this time because of the large amount of snow that has fallen in the mountains.
As you've noticed, I'm completely smitten with this gorgeous view as well! All too soon we can take this photo in March and no one will have a clue that there's a mountain range there! You did it wonderful justice by photographing it at dusk, Ron! Beautiful!
Wow interesting processing full of colour, I suspect we are viewing the San Gabriel Mountain Range, what a beautiful view Ron you lucky man even if its not on view all year around:)
@jorlam Blue Hour! I like that. I sometimes take classes during which the sun sets and we take some very long exposures after the sun has dropped below the horizon. It's amazing how much light is there to capture in such time frames.
@pcoulson Thank you kindly Peter, and you are correct - those are the San Gabriels. You know your U.S. geography quite well!! We can actually see the mountains more often than not. That wasn't always the case back in the 70's and early 80's, but the environmental restrictions, probably mostly the requirements on vehicle emissions, has resulted in significantly cleaner air in these parts recently.
@taffy Thanks Taffy. As I mentioned above, some of the shots taken at dusk, and even well after sunset seem to have a wonderful richness to them - probably a result of the preferred light spectrum at that time.
@onewing@888rachel@joannakate Thanks so much ladies. Not a whole lot of places where palm trees and snow can be captured in the same photo. And when we get the chance here in So Cal you've got to jump on it!
