Another attempt to meet my Get Pushed challenge, a silhouette shot. For those who may not be basketball fans, the expression "from way downtown" is what announcers, fans, sometimes players will utter when a shot from far outside drops through the basket. I don't remember if this one was good or not.
What I learned in taking this photo....again: Don't forget to look behind you. This shot was actually taken on the same evening, but several minutes later than, the image from two days ago. I had packed up my gear and was heading back to my car, hurriedly, as my parking meter was about to run out. I noticed a few people with their phones shooting the sunset - nothing unusual at this location. Then I noticed a whole lot more people shooting the sunset with their phones, so suspecting something special was going on, I turned around and - oh my! I was right next to the basketball court on the beach so took the opportunity to get another silhouette. Check your rear! Oh, and I got back just before the meter ran out.
Ron, you really outdid yourself on this beach trip. Fantastic soCal sunset and those silhouettes, but what I like about this one is the action involved...... the guy with his arm up having just made the shot, and the ball in midair. Fabulous.
Terrific sunset and capture. At first I was expecting aliens to appear. Day of the Triffids and all that. However I did spot the true subject and agree with Anita, the capture is so fab.
Awesome Ron, just Awesome.. not only a stunningly gorgeous sunset with great silhouettes but an action shot too.. Nature put on a magic display and you responded beautifully..
Such a fabulous sky, and a perfect silhouette of the ball in the air. Thanks for your good advice about looking around - I'll have to remember that one :)
@joannakate Thanks Joanna. That little bit of blue has been all we've seen of the sky recently for some reason. It's actually a little unusually warm, but that always brings fog to the coast. Great for sunsets though!
@aglennc Thanks Anita - glad you noticed! The hand and ball were actually my intended point of focus, but the crazy sky kind of overwhelms the rest of the details.
@onewing Thanks Babs, and I entirely agree with you. There's lots of light left after sundown that the eye doesn't see. Only we photographers can appreciate that!
@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth. You're right - most of the beach basketball makes for pretty crappy photos. This one, especially, had there been more light - they were terrible! ;-)
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I very much appreciate you pointing out the details that I was hoping to feature. I guess I was more successful than I first thought. Many thanks!
I took a second look at this shot. (Wasn't paying much attention to the basketball game). Now I see the silhouette of the BB and it is still a very impressive sunset silhouette shot!
