Pardon Me Boy, Is That The Durango-Silverton Choo Choo?
A shot from this past summer. The Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad used to haul silver ore that was mined in Silverton down to Durango, Colorado. It is now purely a tourist attraction that takes riders along some of the most spectacular mountain scenery that exists in America. The locomotive is an original steam powered behemoth and it really does go "choo choo."
Superb looking train beautifully captured in lovely detail and colour Ron, now that's a train I would love to travel on, so nice that its preserved in working order of all ages to enjoy:)
@777margo Thanks Margo. I can assure you that it is indeed fun to ride - especially if you spend a little bit of time....or maybe a lot of time...in the bar car! (Or so I hear.)
@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth. I love Durango too. So much that we invited the motorcycle gang to hang out there for a whole week last August - and they loved it too!
@mikegifford Thanks Mike. Yes, that bike ride is really a popular one - tons of participants as I understand it. Actually even when there are not sanctioned events there are a ton of cyclists doing the ride - especially on the weekend. At that altitude you really need good stamina!
