Hello World! by stray_shooter

Hello World!

Been a while since I've been able to post. Sorry! Got a little distracted, but I should be good for the next several weeks or so.

It seems that I've beeb blessed once again to be chosen as the grounds for new life. Baby hummingbirds are once again beginning their lives on my property - much to the fascination and frustration of kitties Tater and Scooter. As a point of reference, the diameter of this nest is slightly greater than that of an American quarter. Yeah, really tiny little guys. There are two of them here - you can just make out the second one's beak in the background.

It was a bit challenging to get this shot as mama somehow saw fit to build her nest in the branches of a geranium plant that's in a hanging basket. It twirls around constantly as the wind blows it in one direction then the other. The kids don't seem to mind all that much! I'll try to get a few more shots over the next few days to show them as they grow. It happens fast.
Congratulations Ron. Lucky you, they’re amazing little birds. That only bird that has nested in our garden was a Sparrow.

@imnorman Thanks Ian. Lucky to get a sparrow even. I also have a baby dove birthed on my front patio, but just as I thought it was time to take a photo, mama taught him to fly and it was so long dove! Surprising how homely baby doves are.

@joannakate Thanks Joanna. I'm pretty optimistic about their future. Mama chose the nest well, away from the nasty crows that always seem to lurk around. It won't be long until they venture out into the real world.

@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I'm sorry to be such a part-timer. I thought retirement would be much more mundane than it's turned out to be!
