A close shave... by streats

A close shave...

Was struggling for a shot today, left work and it was pouring with rain, wasn't looking good for photographs. Planned to get my haircut on the way home, sat down to wait and this scene was in front of me....another sneaky iPad shot was the result! Although not sure I got away with it this time as a bit of Turkish banter ensued between a couple of the barbers as they spotted me holding my iPad at a strange angle!

I loved the red of the chair when processing this but also couldn't decide on a b&w version..

Love the shot and the processing, it does convey that traditional barber feel! Well at least how I imagine it as don't spend much time at barbers! Funny the situations we sometimes get into to get the shot:-)

lol the title is perfect, thankfully they didn't do a Sweeney Todd on you, and you're still here to post your shot :-) I love this shot.....the processing is awesome :-)

I immediately thought of Wallace & Gromit...

usually I am inclined to go with B/W - but in this case the color appealed to me. I really like the overall tone and candid feel of this picture ... seems restrained.. despite that lovely dash of red :-()

Ok well I'm going to be no help whatsoever as I like both shots equally! I like the red chair in this but I think the b&w one draws the eye more toward the barber and his razor!
August 5th, 2013
very cool shot - I like the colour version - got a great feel to it
August 5th, 2013
Like this a lot! It has a warm feel to it!
August 5th, 2013
Awesome shot - I like this one, the red chair is just doing it for me! Fav

Wonderful sneaky shot! Yes, keep the red chair. It's fab!
August 6th, 2013
I love the color (the red of the chair and the contrast of the barber's shirts), that's what caught my eye in the collage of photos. So vintage and retro without any effort.

Awesome pic! Red is my favorite color, so I have to say this one. It;s also good in b&w, but the colors here really match the shot.
August 6th, 2013
Loving the washed out colours in this Ian, brave shot to take when the guy is holding a cut-throat in his hand!
August 6th, 2013
Great idea and execution! For my taste colors bring more mood to the image!

At first I thought someone was getting a tattoo. Great, sneaky shot :)
August 6th, 2013
LOL! Are they twins?? This is so cool...and yes, the old schneaky 'I'm really just looking at my photos here, please go about your business!" shot! I'll be posting one tomorrow actually!
August 6th, 2013
Great shot. Like the red chair. Don't think you would get the same feel if it was b&w

August 6th, 2013
i love the perspective here, and the processing gives it a cool retro feel. nice shot!
August 7th, 2013
looks like a cool photo from an old National Geographic article. like the colors and story behind it.
August 7th, 2013
Busted...haha, I'm glad, I never seem to be able to get away with a sneaky, you must suffer too. I know it's odd for me to say, but I like the red, it has almost a more retro magazine feel than the mono
August 7th, 2013
Love the colors...this has a great retro feel!!
August 7th, 2013
Ian
@gigiz Haha, I think I might have got away with it if I hadn't been tilting the ipad up and my head down at some weird crazy angle to see the screen, not exactly a common pose for someone waiting for a haircut !! I know what you're saying about the red, I'm also a mono fan for the most part and was convinced at the time this would be a b&w effort but that red just appealed too much.
August 7th, 2013
Great pic and title... love it!

Sue
I like this one the best. Love the red chair ... sounds like you were busted!
August 7th, 2013
Great framing here and I like the red chair too! The processing kind of reminds me of a cartoon look :)
August 7th, 2013
So many cool colours and shapes in this shot. Very interesting subject too :)
August 8th, 2013
Nice composition and processing. I love the red!
August 8th, 2013
Fantastic capture, Ian! Awesome candid! I'm a mono fan too but I really like the colors and retro feel of this version. Lol about getting caught. We 365ers should be equipped with vanishing powers to avoid many awkward moments. :-)
