That's beautiful. When you say your new background arrived, do you mean that white peely paint wood is a picture (or am I being thick?!)

@amandal @mittens @gabigabs @jantan @mamamayerle Thank yous! I bought several backdrops and I'm looking forward to using them.
@roachling You are right Louise, they are printed on to vinyl. They are having a sale now, my luck, why does that happen AFTER I bought something?! http://www.photography-backdrops.co.uk/

@suebarni oh, I didn't even know these existed... finding a half decent background is one reason I don't take photographs indoors! This is something new to think about. Thanks.

@roachling You could have a whole project of indoor photos next year just for a change ..or challenge ;-). Have a look around you at home, I'm sure you'd have all sorts of things that you could use, coats, blankets, curtains, table cloths, scarves, tea towels.. Make your own background, get a big piece of hardboard and stick wall paper/ craft paper / news paper/ brown paper on it, you can make it double sided and change and paint the paper any time. I'm in the process of making my own on a big piece of cardboard that a wardrobe came in but wouldn't recommend cardboard as it is too bendy and mine is now curved, it distorted when I put pva glue and wall paper paste on it, I live and learn. Pop into your nearest fabric shop and check out charity shops and car boot sales. If you'd like inspiration to do still lifes you could take one of Kim's classes, she's lovely, I have learned a lot from her over the last few years, it was worth every penny I've spent on her classes and textures just to see my still life with pinecones and spices photo on the Flickr Explore page. http://learn.kimklassen.com/
