my get pushed partner this week, @mumswaby challenged me to "take a photo that illustrates in some way, your culture" or "alternatively illustrate patriotism".
the culture thing is kind of tough. canada is a diverse country, the melting pot of cultures from all over the world. and i don't get to see here the patriotism of which i was taught from where i came from. we are free to do and believe whatever we are comfortable with (or get away with). damned anyone who would force anybody to 'pledge allegiance' to anything. having said that, in an event, for example at a baseball game, when the audience is requested to stand up for the national anthems people heed the request. yet, i'll be darned if i see anyone taking off their caps or hats when the flags are raised or the anthems played. either this is not taught in school anymore, which baffles me, so that those people do not know the proper etiquette at such occasion. i'll be darned, too, if half the people would stop talking. the thing is, this human rights, this democracy, have been stretched too far in this country to suit those who have nothing better to do than complain.
however, when there's a major event which calls for unity, like hockey in the olympics, ah, we are one people. we wave the maple leaf flag and we cheer on our boys and we sing maple leaf forever.
Cool representation of culture and patriotism. We also have a very diverse culture but again everyone seems to stand together when it comes to the anthem at major sporting events.
A really thoughtful narrative and an excellent representation of your patriottism in the image! Sad to say we suffer form some of the same disrespect in this country! After the tragic 9-11 was the only time in years before or since that I felt our country pulled together as one! It was nice while it lasted!
Nicely composed- I like the contrast of the real leaves and the graphic on the flag- somewhat symbolic of the types of patriotism you wrote about. Well done- well said!
