algophobia by summerfield

algophobia

"the phobia of pain - an abnormal and persistent fear of pain that is far more powerful than that of a normal person. Algophobia is much more common in elderly people. It can be treated with behavioral therapy and anti-anxiety medication. The term comes from the Greek álgos, "pain" and phóbos, "fear".

According to Sabino Metta, a behavioral psychologist, the phobic reaction is a learned behavior. A common example of this would be an elderly person who hears about all of their friends suffering from various ailments and pains. This person will begin to anticipate the problems and experience the results before anything actually happens to them. People suffering from this probably have hyperalgesia." - wikipedia.org

i hate physical pain. i can't stand it. i'm a suck at it. i'd have a broken heart and no one would know it. but i get a paper cut, just a small one, and i need an ambulance, IV drip, morphine drip, ekg, eeg, band-aid, the works! that's probably why i never wanted to have children. why, i'd seen my mother have five of them and i knew what kind of pain it was. i can't even stand it when i have a bad stomach ache - i'd be calling all the saints and angels to let me die!

for the five plus two's phobia theme this week.

also, over at the Mad Hatters, they have "faceless emotion" as theme this week. i'm filling in their wednesday slot and you can see my shot here, a tad similar, but different perspective: http://365project.org/madhatters/365/2015-04-01

I'm usually of the grin and bear school- for myself. But for others- I'll do whatever I can to ease the pain or make it go away!

Moving, just been to visit my mother in law with dementia. We have just got her a great live in carer but she feels hemmed in, anxious, scared, on a leash. There is no pleasing her . Don't want her to be in a home where they dope her with pills to make her compliant, but might have no choice. So sad.
