my get pushed challenge this week, posed by harry benson @hjbenson was a choice of either
1. A yin yang photo or diptych showing yin yang
or
2. A night time photo were a candle is the only light source
soooo guess which one i chose? :-)
the aberration of the light from the candle is due to the longer exposure, which was needed to capture any kind of shapes of the items. it didn't help that i trimmed the wick almost to the wax's surface.
I have the same thought as Ann @olivetreeann about not having the candle actually in the shot. Since you are doing a long exposure there should be enough visible. Plus you should be able to bump your ISO up to around 800 without there being too much noise. Although if you up the ISO you shouldn't need such a long exposure. Your set up is lovely though.
Oh well shows how much I know. I liked it although I do agree that the candle light is too strong. I wonder if you could use a brush in Lightroom to reduce the glare or change the exposure.
Nicely done, when I have done It - as Ann @olivetreeann mentioned - I have not kept the candle in the photo, but keeping it in does give it a different feel that does work
I'm wondering if a candleholder with a darker interior would give you enough light to shoot with but not reflect as strongly itself. It is a very Victorian looking image!
Love the lighting on the objects....the warm, subtle glow from that single light source, but the candle itself bothers me! I think the picture would be so much stronger, and really stand on its own if you were to crop the light source out of it!
What a lovely setup! And I agree with others about nixing the candle out of the photo but only because it is so bright. You could light up a small, dim Victorian style candle I think. Very pretty image!
