it is the "scientific study of the history, symbolism and usage of flags or, by extension, any interest in flags in general". (wikipedia.org)
partner wanted to solve the mystery of the dying impatients so we drove to one of the reputable nurseries uptown. the moment he mentioned 'impatients', the clerk right away launched into the woes the plant had been suffering for the last two years. nothing to do with anything but the impatients itself. and there we were blaming it on the non-existent slug or the former tenant who had been evicted and tried to break into the building.
mystery solved, partner asked about roses. i, on the other hand, wandered around the nursery chasing a bee on the large section containing lavender. when i came back out, we had 3 rose bushes in the car - you buy 2, the third is free, and the purchase carries an excellent one-year guarantee.
on the way back, we passed by this furniture store with colourful "what do you call that, hon?" he asked me.
"flags?" i said uncertain.
"i like that, and maybe ivy would like to have them."
"you can buy them," i said.
"well, perhaps we can make them."
"WE??"
"well, you are so good at crafts, if i buy the materials you can make them."
yeah right. "sorry, i didn't take up vexillology in hotel management."
"vexi what?"
"yeah, that."
