the lustre of pearls

real, cultured and fake, but which ones are real, which ones are cultured and which ones are fake?

today's cultured pearls rival the quality of the most expensive natural pearls in the world. here are two links i found relating the history of pearls, once the most expensive jewelry in the world.

i tried to do a walk about at lunchtime, but the cold and the nasty wind ganged up on me and i was chased inside the labyrinth of downtown toronto's underground path in no time. i'm tired of the cold. i wanna go to sedona, arizona!!!

for the one night stand, today's challenge is "one colour dominates". if you want to have a one night stand with jerry plume @orangecrush, this is how you do it: http://365project.org/discuss/general/22075/anyone-for-a-one-night-stand

thank you for your kind visits and comments; they are truly appreciated.

(and by the way, all those pearls up there are either cultured or fake. i'm wearing the real one, just lazy to take it off. :-P tee-hee!)
I love this, Vikki! It seems like they are piled into a tall glass box, and we are seeing them through the side. Really nice. And that was tricky, asking that trick question! Btw, the kids were amazed at yours and Sally's moon pics. That was fun.

Beautiful. You know when my sisters house was broken into and a lot of her fake jewelry stolen, her real pearls were dumped on the floor and ignored, we figured the thief had no idea that she could own a $3,000 strand of pearls or that the gold was only gold plated

Great idea for the challenge and aren't you tricky?! I was trying to see if I could find the real vs fake. I'm glad I read until the end.

very pretty! i have no idea how to tell the difference... i tend to assume that the shinier ones are the fakes - but what do i know? (i have pearls somewhere - cultured i assume - but how can one tell?)

Now there's a conundrum!

I do not get caught up in this. If they are pretty, wear them. I could not tell the difference and I am sure most of us could not. Very pretty shot

Wow! What a collection you have!

That's a great collection, lots of different sizes too! They do look lovely with the light on them, real or not!

Don't pearls just ooze elegance, such a lovely subject to use for single colour. I got as far as reading the ons and planning to do it but no execution - again!

Lovely shot

What a wonderful collection. I have often thought I should get a string of pearls, but then since I don't wear any jewellery it would be a bit of a waste!

@claireuk - you can always do it some other time. or do some if you can. it's a great motivation, i think. thank you, claire.

@salza - if you don't like waring jewellery, a strand of pearls, beads about the size of peas, should be enough. most of the time i just wear a short strand with smaller beads. i have quite a few necklaces but with pearls you can never go wrong whatever you're wearing.

also, about a month ago, partner and i were driving around and we saw this SUV and there's a small dog by its window and the dog had a stand of (gaudy) pearl beads around its neck. could you believe it? what's your take on that?
