a text message woke me up this morning. it was from ex-flame who i had lunch with last sunday. i call him ex-flame because we had a good history, jon and i. sometimes i think he's the one that got away. he works hard, he's a successful businessman, so successful his success had been written up and he's been in the covers of business magazines in asia and europe. if then was now, it wouldn't have been a problem. but then we were young and yet he was six years younger and for me, then, it mattered. also, he comes from a family of "old money" and the few times we had an argument was because i had voiced out that "he lives in the big house and i in the servants' quarters". in our society (or theirs), the two never meet. we know where we belong and we don't dare dream of ever crossing the other's threshold. it was the same reason i gave him when he proposed. some said and he did, too, that my thinking was foolish. granted, and maybe it was. but i know, now, i still wouldn't "go back".
the text message indeed brought back a vivid memory of those days in the sultanate of oman where we met and came to know each other. here's a story i wrote a long time ago of one of our escapades in the sultanate.

i ignored the text message; i didn't read it. it's still sitting on my phone's homepage.
maybe it's time to change phone number, which is a pity because that number had been mine since before the turn of the century (1999).
tonight, though, when i got off the bus from my grocery shopping, i espied the sliver moon against the almost cloudless sky during the blue hour. it was almost the same moon and sky back there in nizwa, oman.

my laptop is in a coma. last night, i was typing a comment on someone's photo and suddenly the screen switched to orange with the message that windows was upgrading and the loop went on and on and on. i almost stabbed the damned thing with my chef's knife. i turned it on again tonight and it's the same blasted thing. does anyone know how i can revive my laptop? i can still use my old one, but this is a windows 7 and it's, well, different from windows 10.
A great story to go with this marvelous shot.
Your story was fabulous too. You definitely have a talent for capturing the details for a very descriptive story
