les feuilles mortes by summerfield

- J. Kosma, composer; lyrics by J. Prévert

yves montand sings it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1C6E7jbPw

literal english translation:
this song is like us.
you used to love me and
i used to love you
and we used to live together,
you loving me, me loving you.

but life separates lovers,
pretty slowly, noiselessly,
and the sea erases on the sand
the separated lovers’ footprints.

the lyrics of the english version:

the falling leaves drift by my window
the autumn leaves of red and gold
i see your lips, sweet summer kisses
the suntanned hands i used to hold

since you went away, the days grew long
and soon i'll hear old winter's song
but i miss you most of all, my darling
when autumn leaves start to fall.

i was taking photos of a building at lunchtime and i didn't realize i was standing right beneath this young maple tree. with the clear skies and the sun shining brightly through, it felt like i was standing under a canopy of red and gold.

the song was one of my mother's favourites and i remember her humming the tune whenever she was feeding my younger siblings or when she was washing clothes. i think it's a beautiful song, melodic-wise, and the lyrics so dramatic yet a touch tragic.

obviously for the song title challenge, the title meaning "the dead leaves" although the leaves aren't as dead yet.

also for week 43 of the 52-week challenge's creative segment which is to create a photo from the title of a song. not much creative, but needs must so this would do for the moment. we are heading towards the busy holiday season and although i always have the best intentions of fulfilling the challenges, my actual challenge is remembering them. so it always comes down to a hastily thought-off image when a more creative image appropriate for the prompt is not easily done.
A lovely shot and beautiful colour, love that old song too.

Beautiful image to match those lovely lyrics. Thanks for the translation, my schoolgirl French is virtually non-existent.

Beautiful fall capture!

Beautiful. I think I like the lyrics of the English translation best. Of course, I'm sure the French is beautiful if only I understood French.

Brilliant color, moving lyrics...

I'm glad we're having some sunny days, but we don't have these beautiful colors this year. Busyness aside, I think you did well combining a memory a song and a photo.

This is a beautiful tree top. The sun, I believe, has to be in the right place to show off the color, and you captured this image at just the right point.
