"we the north" by summerfield

"we the north"

toronto's NBA basketball team, the raptors, won their championships and the city feted them to a parade. thousands of people flocked to downtown toronto to see and watch the parade. toronto has not seen a major team win for a long time, since 1993 when the city's baseball team, the blue jays, won its second world series. of course the fans today are a different generation from 1993.

traffic wise, it was a mess this morning on the train going to work. it was full of people wearing the jersey of the winning basketball team. what i find appalling though are what some of the people have done -- like a family of 5, the parents and three young children, the youngest a toddler barely 12 months old. at one point the baby cried and the mother tried to soothe the baby by saying, "oh, baby, don't worry, we'll get to the parade. oh, yes, you like that, don't you!" while the baby kept crying. i really wanted to whack her in the head. it was a baby who couldn't speak yet, let alone know what a parade is. i tell you some people are just plain dumb, they should be hang upside down and slapped silly. look at that crowd, if anything happens, what are you to do with a baby in a stroller? even if it's just a little kid of 3 or 4?

as it is, at the winding up of the parade at city hall, there was a shooting and a few people were injured.

most of my co-workers were in there, so woe to us who were not fans or not ardent fans and we had to work. as for me, after a few shots like this, i lost interest and went on with my life and work.

taken from the 36th floor of our office. this intersection is about a block and a half from our building. i realize this is a nothing shot as i myself can't even discern anything except for the traffic lights. haha! there's no way you can find waldo in there.

as a side note, the game of basketball was invented by a canadian, a D. James Naismith, who actually started the "we the north" movement 125 years ago. "we the north" was adopted by the raptors team as their slogan, which is contentious as there are a couple of cities in the league whose location is more north than toronto. i lost you, didn't i?
Yep... teeming masses of people... I don’t much like crowds, but in any event I had meetings today from 9:30 to 4:30... but still - definitely something to celebrate and this makes for an excellent diary shot!

I hear about the shootings on the radio this morning. Did two people die? I would have hated to have been anywhere near all these people. I hope the injured people are okay.

This is rather unbelievable, I suppose you get these crazy fans all over the world.

A crowd like that would be a nightmare for an adult. To take small children is ridiculous and totally irresponsible. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it !

The things you can see from the 36th floor :) Was sad to see so many young children at the parade. Why of why do parents not think? Was even sadder to know that someone would shoot another human being....or any living thing for that matter.

A great capture, but not for me. To much crowd, a nightmare for me.
