at the gallery

they oohhh! they aahhh! yes, people come to see the spectacle of the most wanted commodity of the decade. where's the police? physical distancing, people! this was of course another age, another time that is now just a memory.

photo taken during our tour of the art centre of chicago. this was in the impressionism room. and i only took this photo because i was looking for my company.

today, i changed strategy. i got up, showered and actually donned something that i would wear if i had to go out in to the streets. even put on summer shoes around the abode. moved my "work" laptop to the other end of the table so that i am facing the window where i can see the toronto skyline. propped the laptop on my bed tray which is a ruler high so that i don't have to be sitting down all the time. had a lot of things done, easy stuff if i was in the office, but working from home, i thought some things were impossible. turned out, yes, we don't need printers, we just need a pad to write notes on.

i did a few expense reports for one of my young lawyers. he took photos of the receipts and i had to arrange them in chronological order then pdf'd it. what i found out belatedly was that i couldn't change to pdf or Word the actual report i generated. after i've exhausted all options i knew, i had to ask a few of the girls what to do. and then i figured it out. sent it to the lawyer for signature and by the afternoon, i had submitted them all. i was a busy bee..

Such fun... and so cleverly done! And yes, I think many of us are trying to figure out how to “WFH” ( work from home) these days... it’s amazing what a game-changer it is...

Loving your roving TP series Vikki. Sounds like you're doing very well WFH, clever girl.

Certainly is a game changer - I like the the reframing of working from home to "you are not working from home' you are "at your home, during a crisis, trying to work" - i think this is a much more accurate description.

Cleverly done. The work from home scenario is going to change how the world works. Office buildings could become a thing of the past.

@salza - very true. i didn't believe an assistant can work from home. my issue before was that if an assistant is working from home, and her boss asks her to print a document, she indeed can print it remotely. the boss can pick it up, but the problem is she would have to ask another assistant to get it from the printer and deliver it to the boss, if the boss is in a meeting and needs the printed document for that meeting. what if everyone else is busy as is always the case in a lawfirm? but, boy oh boy! we sure don't need printers. the paperless office sure can get by as we are finding out.

that sounds like a highly positive and productive day. I need to take a leaf out of your book. So far I have worked in three different rooms with different combinations of laptop, home made stand and my home computer. Haven't found the right combination yet. I have a colleague who prints everything - even emails - I wonder how he is getting on. You pulled the gallery shot off very well - I have no doubt there will be works of art all over the world featuring the precious commodity of the loo roll. You will have been a trend setter.
