i'm late in joining the game with jackie, casablanca, moni kozi and grammyn. but i was not aware of this until sunday noon.
this was from a tutorial from jackie. the project was for watercolour. i don't know anything about masking fluid and washing the sky, that's why acrylic is my choice of medium. plus i don't have watercolour 🤣. i grabbed a still from the video and proceeded from there. looking at the still, i just guessed what the colours would be starting with the sky and adapted the other colours to match it. i was going to work on another skyscape that called for a "powder blue" for the sky so i started with that. i kind of like the resulting colour tones, although admittedly i should have mixed more gray in the background trees; it's too green for my liking.
whereas the tutorial had sketched the trees beforehand, i followed the advice by the great katy @grammyn, that i should paint, not draw, so i started with the sky first, then worked from the back to the front, "painting" in (not draw or sketch) the trees last. i consulted some of my similar photos for depth and shading. the birch trees are a bitch to paint and i sort of got lost with the background trees on the right. to be honest, i just winged it, practising on a cardboard with three different paintbrushes.
midway, it looked horrible and i was so tempted to paint over it and start again. but i was losing daylight so had to make the most of what i had done and persevered. after four hours, i was famished and called it quits. i emailed a photo to my sister back in the old country and she's impressed with the dof and my colour choices. mind you, she would forever welcome the chance to slaying me to the ground criticising my work when she gets the chance and sees it fit so she must be telling the truth.
as i have no time to go out (well, i have the time, i just have nowhere to go or just can't go) this will be my entry for week 4 of the 52 capture the subject of which is "scapes".
Your take on the tutorial in acrylics is excellent. I like the snow and the shadows the most. I was telling Jackie that I don;t like the shadows in the tutorial, as i find them blocking the eye, because they are too long and crossing everything. But you managed to give them a good proportion and angle. Well done!
I find it daring that you used acrylics, as in Jackie's case, when she attempted Jane's tutorial in watercolour. They are two completely different mediums.
Don't look for my attempt, because I did not post it. ;)
now i have to write my speech for the school.

I love how we all did the same, but different, due to experience and materials.
@monikozi @grammyn @cssablanca
Love this artistry game!!!
Well done!
Have a very Happy New Year.
