we change gears this week with the flash of red. this week it's trinkets, treasures and trash.
ever since the pandemic started and work from home was de rigueur, i have not worn a watch, any of the several watches (a few shown here) that i have. when i needed to work at the office in december, i discovered that all these watches that i liked to wear were not keeping time anymore and most have dead batteries. even the pocketwatches the batteries of which also died from not being used (as you know i use them only for props). a couple of the wristwatches are good ones and i'd buy the batteries for them, but the lockdown would probably have sent the jeweller i go to for my batteries to the road to bankruptcy.
i have a go-to watch, the pocket watch i bought last year but it needs rewinding every eight hours. i don't have time for that!
There is a grand variety of watches here! Of course all very fashionable. I am sorry you have no need to wear them anymore but working from home has SOME advantages n' est-ce pas?
This is pretty cool idea. Love that all the watches have different times on them. I personally haven't had a watch on since I retired in 2008. Don't miss it a bit.
well now... that's an impressive collection! you know what they say... if you have one watch, you know what time it is... if you have two watches - you don't!!!!
Oh my, and I thought I had a lot of watches. I actually took two to the jeweler the other day to have their batteries changed. I’m tired of wearing my Apple Watch all the time. When we go out (a rare occasion these days) I prefer a dress watch. This is a great image and as always I enjoy your narrative.
So much fun to see all those watches. My family and I always had to much of them....a few years back I collected them all and sewed them on a jacket for a fantasy festival they don’t work but it looks impressive ;)
Your watch collection looks great in black and white- well, now we know batteries or not, they're useful for something! I had a ton of watches when I was working too, however I can remember the last time I wore one and at this point, unless it was a slip on type, I probably wouldn't be able to manage the strap with my arthritic fingers! I think I still have 2 but the rest I sold at a yard sale. I love that alphabet watch- very unique!!
@olivetreeann - that's my "writer's watch"; i won it back in the 90's with my award-winning essay on how to study effectively. beat the crap out of the younger students who thought their way was better.
well I like your taste in watches - it would be a shame to see some of those grind to a halt. I would definitely struggle with time keeping with the alphabet watch.
@helenhall - oh, i never struggled with it when i used to use it. i like those blank-faced watches or those that had no numbers. nobody could borrow it from me, especially my sisters. we had a cousin who was much older than us and she used to borrow my mother's watch and won't return it for weeks. so when the watch broke, my mother chose a watch that had no numbers but just little lines. i was the only one who would use it. do you know that a lot of young people don't know how to tell time so they're quite happy with the digital watches?
A nice pile of watches. I had a bunch of watches when I worked, and like yours, the batteries died, or the straps broke. I kept them for awhile but then got rid of them. I asked my husband for a "good" watch (I needed one for work) and when I got that as a gift, I quit wearing the others.
I also have a pile of watches that are basically only good to me now as props. You have a great collection! The one with the alphabet instead of numbers is intriguing.
Great light and subject for this photo!
