my sister dragged me west of the city to see the salmon run at the old mill dam at humber river. not a lot of fishes but it was still exciting to watch whenever a fish or two tries to jump up the dam against the current. i was able to get a good vantage point albeit sitting on sharp rocks. we only saw one little guy succeeded in jumping over and the few spectators cheered wildly. i set my camera on "sports" function and as soon as i saw a head appeared, i pressed on the shutter and the camera took several frames capturing this big guy's futile attempt. i wanted to make a gif but it wasn't to be. you can see the head of another fish just below the airborne one.
Note: cropped to bring in the jumping fish more.
while we cheer for the fishes to succeed, it is actually a sad thing because after they have laid their eggs on the shallow waters, they die. no wonder below stream, there was a plethora of fishermen in their waders and expensive fishing rods -- might as well catch them than let them die.
i think i will have grilled halibut tomorrow for lunch.
belatedly tagging this for week 29 of the 52 captures challenge, the theme of which was "levitation". methinks this is more than qualified.
You caught a good. makes a great picture. fav. my daughter and I went there last year for the first time and this year again. our pictures can't compare with yours.

The narrative is a bit sad.
I had to chuckle about your concern for the fish after they die and the quiet little sentence about eating halibut for lunch!
