last monday morning, a man in his early 40's jumped over the protective railing overlooking the niagara falls and fell 55 metres down to the niagara river. he survived. some reports say it was an act of suicide, others say it was an adventure gone horribly wrong. the man is now in hospital with serious head and other body injuries.
we were walking down to take the 'maid of the mist' boat tour when several fire trucks passed by us, as well as ambulance trucks. after our boat tour, we hang around the falls market place and listened to live music when i saw the 'ornge' helicopter, similar to this one, arrived.
"Ornge, formerly known as Ontario air ambulance, is the air ambulance service for the province of Ontario and for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (Ontario). The name Ornge is not an acronym, but is based on the colour orange of its aircraft and land ambulances. According to the organization, "the "a" was removed from the name, partly to make people stop and take a second look, and also so that it could be trademarked." - wikipedia.org

thank you for your visits and kind comments. know that they are so much appreciated.
Beautiful capture of this, summerfield. Lovely color against the blue sky! Yes, I heard about that man .... so lucky to be alive. You had quite the adventure on this trip!
@pamfromcalgary - the reports were conflicting. there's no more mention of the incident in the papers. he got his fifteen minutes of fame and it's a horrible way to get attention if indeed he was just on a misadventure. horrible still if he was trying to commit suicide. thank you, pam.
@myhrhelper - thank you, kathy. the capture was already in toronto, but it's probably the same heli, i don't know how many they have. the agency is actually right now on investigation as the officials spent an enormously huge amount of money on 'stuff' unrelated to the services.
@karenann - thank you, karenann. i actually didn't know about it and just supposed that there probably was a fall. five fire trucks and two ambulances plus the ornge heli were clues. i heard about the conflicting reports when i was already on the train coming back.
Now that is just interesting stuff about the helicopter, the missing a, and that man who took a dive off into the river. Did you ever learn if he was okay. Did you know enough German to say "Oh no! That is terrible?" haha
Awesome capture. Great story. You know, I bet if you sent the company a copy of that, they'd probably appreciate it. Those guys love photos of them in action.
@espyetta - MB, i read your comment above just tonight. i'm sorry i didn't get to acknowledge you right away. but the man survived with some serious injuries. his story has disappeared from the pages of the newspapers after a few days so we don't know if he will be charged or not. i don't know enough german to say that, i just said in english, "oh, f*** it!" and that the gentleman understood quite well. hehehe!
@summerfield Oh, no worries! It is easy to miss a notification..or just get too busy to comment. That is fine ! Thanks for coming back, though, and explaining what happened!
Not me....I've never been one of those guys. I'm very low key, get the job done, and go home. Really, I just consider myself a blue collar worker, doing a job like anyone else. But a good amount of people in the field love the exposure.
