my get pushed partner this week, patty @socalgal has pushed me to take a macro shot. so this is my first entry for the challenge. i used a macro filter for this shot. i have a reverse macro ring and an extension tube macro ring, but i realized i don't know how to use them and i didn't want to risk hurting my lens or my camera. on the weekend, i shall have my niece give me a short hands-on tutorial on how to use those thingamabobs.
to patty: here is my first try. i hope this meets your push. the coin is our canadian dime which is just a tad smaller than your penny. this is my necklace's pendant which i've been meaning to photograph so i have it for my records.
sooc except for the name tag. and would you believe it, no cropping whatsoever.
the details are so clean and crisp. i have no idea how to use those things you mentioned so am really glad i do not have them! i need more glass. oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
@pandorasecho - really? wow! that's great. it means i probably don't have to get a macro lens, the filter alone works great. been wanting to photograph my little jewelry so i have it for the home insurance. thank you, dixie.
@socalgal - 76 different shots, the lights mucking all of them up. i had to settle for this as i was tired from peering into the eye piece. i wanted to crop it close so it would look big on the upload, but i'd have lost the perspective i wanted. thank you, patty.
@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. i got them off amazon for cheap. hahaha! i even bought a remote shutter which didn't fit my camera as it was for a nikon D90. good thing one of the girls at the office has a D90 so i was able to unload it. i got a wireless shutter and boy, do i love it. i will use it for night shots and long exposures. i want to take a shot of those silky water pics i've seen around here. the wireless shutter i was able to figure out how to use. but those macro rings, kinda difficult to figure out, those things don't come with a diagram or anything. i have extra macro filters here, a +2 and a +4. would you like to have them? i can send them to you if you e-mail me your address. i sure won't need them especially when i've learnt how to use the rings and tubes. lemme know.
@summerfield i just have the 18-55mm lens. will they work with that? if so, YES, just let me know how much i owe you and where to email you my address.
p.s. - i just got contacted by a relative of a relative who is getting married in october 2013 - sees all the photos i take of the children and wants me to shoot her outdoor wedding. casual, outdoor wedding. doing the engagement photo this weekend. logan's book did it.
@catsmeowb - yay! how exciting. oh my you might have just found your real calling! good for you. okay, i have to celebrate you, i'm going to have a cake next door! :-) now you've go to practice a lot!
This is very nice, crisp & focus nice detail.
I don't have any macro thingamabobs. Is there anything cheap that can be purchased for macros with our camera? I don't/can't spend hundreds of dollars on anything at this time.
@myhrhelper - i got the macro rings and tubes from amazon.ca. the filter i used here came in a set of four: +1, +2, +4 and +10. i'm using the +10. i believe i paid $12 plus shipping for the set. the macro tube was only $9.95 and the rings were less than that. i also got a wireless remote shutter for $25, all canadian currency. i got the wireless going, i just didn't want to run the risk of destroying the mounts of my lenses so i need someone with more expertise to show me how to use the macro thingamabobs. my niece is quite the expert with photography. well, she's also an expert in computer, she's my techie ever since she was 7. tee-hee! i just have to feed her when she comes over.

@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian.
@cottoncandy - thank you, mischell.
