same setting wednesday - on the streets of toronto

i've been meaning to emulate margaret bourke-white's "supreme court" shot but there was no chance for it last month during the artist challenge. the inscription on this building "Department of Household Science" intrigued me when i first saw this building uptown.

"The Lillian Massey Building is a Neoclassical building located in Downtown Toronto, at the southeast corner of Bloor Street and Queen's Park and across from the Royal Ontario Museum. It was designed by architect George Martell Miller (1855–1933) and built between 1908 and 1912 for the University of Toronto's Household Science program created by Lillian Massey Treble, daughter of wealthy Canadian business man, Hart Massey. It presently houses the offices of the Ontario Ombudsman, the University of Toronto Department of Classics and Centre for Medieval Studies, as well as Club Monaco’s flagship retail store..." - wikipedia

i promise to post a capture of the building's full facade someday.

thank you, ladies and gents, for your kind views and comments; i do appreciate them greatly.
Oh this would have been a nice one for her work. The angle of this makes it for an interesting shot too

@myhrhelper - thank you, kathy. i think architectural subjects sometimes look good with the dutch angle. i'm going to shoot this building again, as i only passed by it and took this shot from across the street.

Love your pov and the angle on this ... amazing lines and architecture! Department of Household Science?!! Hey I think that I've earned my "degree" in that already! :) :) Great history here ... your photo captured it beautifully. How're you doing, summerfield. I have been totally uninspired lately. I am trying different kinds of "looks and captures." Totally bored with my "regular and ordinary" photos. I see so many great photos around me ... there are so many extraordinary photogs out there today. Saw a local gallery contest here and even in this small town the talent is amazing. Ah well ... I have come to a crossroads. Either try to please the viewer or myself ....it's not so easy to try "new" things.

@karenann - thank you for the compliments, KA. i really was chuckling at the household science thing when i saw it the first time and still do. i think that has probably to do with home economics. heaven knows i tried to google it so many times and i never got a decent information as to what it is.

i've been sick, had a sore throat which turned out to be strep throat so doctor ordered for me to NOT go anywhere near my brother. but he's doing better it seems. been busy looking at my files to see if there is anything more i can sell. i got my payment today for my two photos and a third one was paid even though i have yet to hand it over to the buyer (different buyer). the one negative is that partner sees this as a business, i see it as a hobby. if i get to sell a photo, fine with me, who wouldn't eh? so i told him to let me take the photo and he be the one to sell it. i think i want to go back to writing. :-)

@karenann - i pushed the post button and i wasn't finished yet. you have to try to please yourself, although by the looks of it, it's hard to please you, and that is because you are so hard on yourself. believe the people on here that tell you your work is good, because it is true. you have already pleased us and convinced us that you are good, in fact you're better than the average person around here. you understand perspectives and you know how to capture it. so until you convince yourself that you are good, you will be unhappy with your work. yes there are so many talented photographers around, and you are one of them and your work is unique compared to others. start being a little gentle on yourself and what you can do. because you are more than good. okay? :-)

Aww ....didn't know that you were "under the weather," summerfield. Wishing you a quick recovery. Very happy with the news about your brother. As for selling your photos ... I say "why not?" I don't think that happens with many people on here ...such a great recognition for you. For me it's strictly a hobby. My "teacher" at the camera shop has yet to say anything good about my photos ... so that keep me pretty much humbled and grounded. He always says, "Wow me!" Well, I haven't wowed him yet. That keeps me pushing ahead. But there have been many days that I want to give up. Trust me ...you are truly talented. Either writing or capturing photos. :)

@karenann - i think that this is what's keeping you back. you look up to this teacher and he has yet to be 'wowed' yet by you. well, he's just one person. ultimately the people who would 'certify' or qualify your work will be your audience. it's the 'ordinary viewer' the one who would say, "i like your work so i want it on my wall." when i was in high school, my english teacher told me i will never be a writer because my essays are flat, i use ordinary words. and that really stayed with me all through these years. then when i started to write here, my teachers, who were artists and writers, too, couldn't believe that i have not been published yet at the time. and then i realized that i have always been hired in all the jobs i've held because i write well. and i write in such simple way that most people can understand (even though i'm trained in law, which as we all know lawyers write with so much rigamarole they sometimes need another lawyer to interpret them hahaha! no offence to lawyers around here).

and so, what i mean to say is if you cannot please him, it's his problem. he's just one person, he may be a teacher in photography but his opinion is still subjective. as i said, it's your audience that you need to please. you can't give up, you'd be wasting your talent if you do. this is suppose to make you relax, not stressed out wanting to know how to wow just one person. you're wowing more than a hundred person with your work. and wowsa! you have a beautiful photo of a boat. where was i? i forgot what else i was going to write because i saw your boat. let's go see your boat.
