Well, not the dainty flowers you've seen from me recently! It's a buddy from the garden though --- a Garter Snake. He was taking advantage of the hour or so of sun that we saw today!
I learned today that Garter Snakes come in a large variety of colours and patterns. The yellow and black stripped one here is from my garden in eastern Ontario, Canada. To the east of us it would be gray or brown with spots, and its stripes are often obscured. To the west of us it would be boldly marked with red stripes. It is usually about 60 or 70 cm in length, and on occasion (rare) can be more than 1 m. It is found throughout North America and has the same wide variety of coats in the States as here.
Thanks for dropping by. I read and appreciate each and every bit of feedback.
shivers! this looks so real i'm going to have nightmares. which, anne, means great photo. when i see a snake, i just run away, having come from a country where the littlest variety of snakes are deadly, i've learned not to mess around with them.
Wow..cool close up.. and I really don't mind many snakes.. I am leery most of the water snakes because they are just way too fast for me.. I had a 4 ft. rat snake living in my garage for almost a year.. but he didn't bother me, nor I him.. and he ridded the garage of mice and chippies.. LOL..
Beautiful capture right down to his scales and colors.. Brava lady!!!!
Well done. We have them too. My son would capture and care for one every summer for a few years when he was a boy. I like the way you focused on the head.
