It was either this clear shot of an aggressive little red breasted nuthatch or an interesting but less than clear shot of a trio --- some combination of mourning doves, jays, grosbeaks and various colours of squirrels. Those trio shots are harder than I expected!
We went camera shopping yesterday and none of the 3 stores we went to had even heard of the brand new Nikon P510. Looks like I'll have to get it online but I'm not sure where ... any ideas for Canadian shoppers? Barry would like an SLR [which is too heavy for me to use] so we may be really splurging ... stay tuned. ;-)
He has quite a long beak for such a little guy! Anne, I have a problem with my thumbs, and a DSLR would be hard for me to handle. If you're not looking for a big camera, and you're willing to look at other digital cameras, you might look at the Sony DSC-HX9V. That's what I use - it just came out last spring. It was really hard to get for a while, but I just love what I can do with mine.
Nice catch of this little guy . . he does look like he won't be pushed around by the bigger guys! I like my Nikon, but the lens (70-300mm) makes it very heavy. And there are times when you'd need a tripod for support. It's a very hard choice to make and costly. Good luck.
@markbuehl@karenann@sparkleplenty1 so very glad to get some feedback. thanks! i have some more homework to do. laurie gave me some good advice yesterday ... i love this community!
He is a cute little fellow! You take excellent bird photos. I have birds in my backyard, but my feeders are too far away for good photos. I guess I either need to move the feeders closer to the window or just enjoy their joyful chatter. Best of luck finding a new camera. Be patient, I'm certain you will find the one that is just right for you.
@falcon11 thanks allison! interesting about the black stripe. i just learned today that the only nuthatch with the bandit look is this one. thanks for the link ... much appreciated.
He's so cute with those stripes! Anne, I'll give you the same advice I give anyone who asks - go to a store where they let you fondle the cameras - Future shop, Best buy or something like that. handle as many cameras as you can and select the one that feels good in your hands and feels like it will be easy for you to operate. Then buy it wherever you get the best price. often, the weight of a camera comes from the size of the lens, so you might just find a dslr that suits you .
Beautiful photo! How fun; a new camera. Good luck with your shopping. Too bad you can't take it home for a week and try it out. That seems fair for such a large purchase.
Good luck with the purchase of a new camera. I am not familiar with Nikon, but if you look on-line you may be able to zero in on some deals. Check Amazon.com. This little guy is very pretty.
i had planned to take the grandsons to the park and let them feed the birds but we got sidetracked. oh well, next time they're here, for sure. nice details on this nuthatch, especially the claws.
you can pre-order the camera from henry's. you can also buy online from nikon itself, although the retailers should be able to give you better deals. good luck, ann.
this is a great shot Anne, it's such a pretty little bird!
@paulaag lol, yes i agree!
Does this mean Barry may be coming back to us?
