We stopped at the Osprey nest for a few seconds for an updated pic. Although she doesn't have much of a brown necklace on her breasts, I'm pretty sure this is the female. Her mate was sitting close by on a pole just down river. Maybe one of these days we'll see babies.
What a great shot, Anne! Every day, I tune into an osprey cam that's in Maine to watch the little chicks in the nest and mama and papa taking care of them - it's so interesting!
A perfect pov of a gorgeous bird! Love your textures and detail. Hope there are photos of the babies to come (if they are there, I'm sure that you will capture them, Anne!)
Great pic! So close up! Do all osprey look just like this? Because I had up that " hawk fishing" collage a while back and someone told me on taht that it was an osprey....but it was not like this..more like a red tailed hawk to me. So I am confused...fav on your lovely Osprey!
@espyetta awwe, thanks marybeth! here's a link that i've referred to often: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/osprey/id. ospreys are hawks and are similar to red tailed hawks. i have so much to learn about bird id. and you're way better at it than i am so if you think its a red tailed, i'd agree.
@sunnygreenwood Well, my bird that I called Hawk but someone told me was an osprey did not look like this...that is for sure. I am inexperienced with bird ID. That person told me it was an Osprey because it was fishing.....do hawks (non Osprey) fish?
