Here's some info I learned today about Blue Jays [from Cornell Lab of Ornithology]:
- Blue Jays lower their crests when they are feeding peacefully with family and flock members or tending to nestlings.
- The pigment in Blue Jay feathers is melanin, which is brown. The blue color is caused by scattering light through modified cells on the surface of the feather barbs.
Many thanks for all your comments and favs. Much appreciated.
Such a wonderful portrait of peaceful feeding, no worries about dribbling on his shirt. And thanks for sharing the information about blue jays -- very interesting.
That is some interesting information - I love blue jays - just have no luck in getting a good shot of one! You've got a terrific close-up here with wonderful detail. Love the tones in this.
This is simply fabulous, Anne. A gorgeous close!! So beautifully focused and sharp it almost looks three dimensional. I'm fascinated by the fact that the blue is merely distorted reflections of light. That's a pretty amazing factoid that I had never heard before.
Not only a beautiful photo, but I love the information you added! I photograph the BlueJays almost exclusively when we're in Canada, and it's interesting to know some facts about them! Thanks!
