Today we had a wood pellet delivery. That's what our heating system uses. We've had this system for a good few years now and it's very efficient and very eco friendly. The pellets are like animal feed and they're blown through that yellow pipe into a big hopper. It's a good option when you live a bit out in the sticks like we do. The alternatives would be oil or LPG (liquid gas).
@beryl@brennieb This kind of system isn't very suitable for conventional houses because the boiler itself is big and you need a lot of space for the pellet hopper. Ours is in a shed to the right. A few people around here have them. It's a good alternative to oil when you can't get town gas and of course it's renewable.
My friend I walked with today uses this system for heating their Farmhouse. They used to use oil but went on this system in the last couple of years. Growing in popularity round here although we are on oil here. If I listened to her I would be hesitant about changing as she was saying it's quite a dear way. Looks very clean & efficient though.
@happypat@onewing It is clean and efficient and good for the environment because it's renewable. It's cheaper than oil and a LOT cheaper than liquid gas. It smells nice too when it's burning.
@happysnaps@aglennc Thank you for commenting ladies. I'm pleased to be able to introduce you to something different. You both live in warm climates so I guess you don't need to worry too much about heating fuel.
@merrelyn It's good because it's clean, efficient and good for the planet. The pellets are cylindrical, about 10 mm long with a diameter of about 5 mm.
@susiemc Our home's central heating is on right now. (9:00 p.m.) It has turned COLD here -- relatively speaking!! Down into the mid 40 degrees F (about 5 degrees C.) here during the night these days. Into mid 60s F. (about 18 degrees C.) during the day. Still sunny but, for us, cool to cold.
