This water lily has been in Chris' family since he was a little boy. His uncle had the original plant in his pond in Liverpool. When Chris was old enough he built a pond in his parents garden and Uncle Bill gave him a piece of his lily. When we got married Chris built a pond in our garden in Kew, Surrey and brought the lily from his parents pond. When we sold that house and moved to Wales the lily was taken back to his parents pond until Chris could build one at our house in Llanwrtyd Wells. He soon did that and the lily came to live there with us. During the time that we lived there Chris gave a piece of the lily to some friends who lived nearby. They had a huge pond and the lily did really well and grew very big. Last year, once the pond here in our new garden was finished Chris asked our friends if he could please have a piece of the lily. Of course they said yes and here it is, flowering. We're very happy and we know Uncle Bill would be.
oh I love plants with history, I have an orchid that was in my late husband's mothers garden while he was growing up :) this is special and gorgeous to boot!
