Yesterday's post shows a photo of our new crab apple tree taken from the opposite direction. One day recently we had been out all day and when we came back our neighbours had taken down a row of wonderful shrubs and trees all along the fence in the middle of the picture. When they were there we couldn't see any of those building and untidy mess. I was devastated. These trees and shrubs, including a fabulous hazel tree which was so beautiful in the spring, were on their land but there didn't seem to be any reason for taking them down. This little crab apple tree is the first stage in our attempt to create a screen ourselves. We chose a crab apple tree because the blossom is very pretty in the spring and the tiny red apples are very pretty in the autumn and both are great for wildlife.
Aaw Sue ! how devastating for you - you must be upset at this eyesore when you both have spent so much time and effort in creating a lovely , neat and tidy garden around your new home . and a new screening hedge/trees take time to fill out ! I feel for you !
What a shock! Photinia ( red robin) grows very quickly. We bought two and they have shot up and form an excellent screen. Pyracantha makes a good evergreen screen and grows quickly, but I’m sure you know all this.
