................broken signposts, yellow "public footpath" arrows missing, a broken stile in bottom of a hedge, overgrown and with a rusty old gate on top of it.
I have several little books of walks around here and in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The instructions in the book are usually quite clear but when the stile you're looking for is like this one and the arrows you're looking for are completely missing, or a finger post like the one here is completely broken it does make life difficult. We always have an ordnance survey map with us so we get home eventually but we often walk further than we intended.
It's not so much of a problem in the National Park because there's more funding to maintain the footpaths and signs but Herefordshire doesn't have any money to spare for that kind of thing.
Disappointing Sue! We had footpaths on our previous farm & low betide if we did t keep them free from clutter & let them get difficult to follow the paths...I am taking around thirty years ago so I would think that any spare funds for inspection of footpaths has long gone!
