Assembling the trug wasn't the big job Chris thought it might be when he opened the box and saw all the bits. He actually finished it yesterday and went to buy compost today. There is some of our own home-grown compost in there but we didn't have enough.
I'm using every bit of space which isn't already being used to grow my veg. This gravel is really just an extension to the parking area in front of the house. The trug won't interfere with parking as the water butt is already there and there's a gate into the back garden next to where Chris is standing.
Next time you see this trug I hope it will have salad growing in it - lettuce, rocket etc.
I'm happy with my trug but I was very disappointed to read on the box that it's come from China. Surely something like that could be made in the UK. It makes a mockery of my efforts at sustainable gardening and trying to reduce food miles by growing my own veg. I intend to email the company and tell them what I think.
@carole_sandford Yes it is. It’s at the front of the house so we thought we ought to get one that looks nice 😂🤣. There’s the usual ugly one at the back of the garage where no-one sees it.
It's always a battle juggling overlapping ethical issues in everyday life. I guess that's why it can seem so appealing sometimes to just say to heck with it. My latest issue is that they ask us to make sure glass and plastic contours are clean before depositing them in recycling but then I heard, the other day, that the water and soap that you use to wash them cause an equal or greater negative effect on the environment. Can't seem to win for losing.
