This photo was taken a bit further along the canal from the one I posted yesterday. This is the aquaduct carrying the Brecon and Monmouth canal over the river Usk. Although the canal looks narrow it is just wide enough for a narrow boat to travel along it. The aquaduct was completed in 1801. It is at right angles to the river, reducing it's length to the minimum possible therefore making it easier to build. It does however mean that the canal, which runs parallel to the river, has to turn sharply on both approaches. In the summer there are often narrow boats going backwards and forwards along the canal but not on this cold, grey day.
Great lines and reflections in this photo, Sue. Very nice. And really interesting info. I'm always impressed with minds that can create structures such as this. (Fav for the photo)
