Just recently we've been getting pheasants in the garden for the first time ever and this is the first time I've managed to capture one. There is an organised pheasant shoot about 5 miles from here and the birds are commercially reared. They must have stepped up the breeding programme because all of a sudden we see them everywhere. I very much disapprove of shooting anything for pleasure (especially a beautiful bird like this) and I like to think that our garden is a safe haven for any pheasants that escape. (I'll let you know if I change my mind when we have hundreds). I find them really difficult to photograph but I do hope to post more and better pictures.
Pheasants are not native to Britain. They were introduced long ago to be hunted for sport. They have now naturalised.
I am with you. I absolutely hate the idea of hunting for sport. And I do hope these beautiful birds know your place is a safe haven. They are such beautiful birds. Lovely capture of this big guy.
