Out and about with Gary today and I spotted a yard piled high with thousands of bicycles.
There was someone in the yard so we stopped so I could take a photo. The gentleman was most obliging after I assured him I wasn't from the council and wasn't following up complaints! He told me he was waiting for someone to collect a truck load of them to be shipped out to Africa, its nice to hear they will end their days in sunnier climes.
He also said that somewhere under the huge pile was his pet Cockerel but he wouldn't come out because it was raining. Once again, my hopes were dashed.
Hi great capture Suzanne , very interesting find and story, I find myself draw to the shot is like one of those puzzle were you have to see if you can count how many wheels you can see! I love it and the story to go with it, happy endings to these bikes :) Fav
@ludwigsdiana Thank you Diana, there is not much sign of the rain slowing, it is absolutely throwing it down, I don't think I've known it so dull in mid August before. Maybe the rain will follow the bikes down, that would be good for everyone I think
@lovingandsharing Haha, thank you Kay, you would be a long time counting them all, He had another yard full of them too. You can just see in the bottom left that they are nicely stacked, after that I think he just started to throw them on the heap!
@pyrrhula So true Tony, hopefully our throw away generation can benefit other countries where they often have no other means of transport, and possibly can give them more time to earn, learn and enjoy life.
So good to see that these bikes will get a second lease of life. Sadly we live in a throwaway society, no doubt the bikes will be greatly appreciated :)
I love this - it makes for a great photo. Here and there you see tiny touches of colour which really add to the effect. Clever title and so good that they will be used again!
I just love the suggestions of colour that you have in here. I love your cycle picture and I love the story too. It is always good when you get to stop and chat a while. Fav for so many reasons.
@suzanne234 No problem. Mine is Ferry .
I Have some problems with our countries. (also mine) as they think we can help them with giving our left overs.
Wow! That's amazing! A yard piled high with thousands of bicycles is definitely not something you see every day. Terrific find and wonderful capture! Enjoyed your narrative and so happy the bikes will be recycled. :-)
Wow...a wild and interesting capture! Fav...the textures, layers, color and frame. Nice to know they will be going somewhere to be greatly appreciated for a second life and not the dump. I wonder why they were just in a big tangled pile and not lined up? I am a little worried about the Cockerel though?!?
