Finally I got to see a murmuration today. I've been hoping to catch one for some time but they have refused to appear for me at a site near the Humber Bridge.
Today I was out with Gary, pretty close to where we live and there it was, thousands of Starlings, swooping and swirling and forming the most amazing patterns.
I shall return in the next day or so and try to get better captures, hopefully they will be there!
@fbailey I was mesmerised, had no real clue on what setting I should be on and frantically just snapped away, and then Gary really needed to be at his next job!, Hopefully I shall be more composed next time. I hope they appear for you if you get over to Folkestone :)
Wow, I something like this, though on a smaller scale, o my way home from work today, but I can’t remember exactly where. I didn’t think too much of it until i’ve Just seen your picture, probably around the Welton area I think.
@carole_sandford This was at Messingham Carole, it was huge. I made the mistake of zooming in so you cant really see just how many there were, or the patterns. Also strangely the only sound was a whooshing noise as they went past.
Wow! I'd love to experience this first hand! I've seen lots of videos of starlings in murmuration...it's so amazing how they fly in such coordinated patterns through the sky. :-)
I was once at my son's house close to Oxford when something like this happened. Thousands of them landed all over the place in the evening. By morning they had all gone.
@ingajohansson Ahh, I wonder if there is a Swedish word for it. It's said that Starlings are in decline so it was nice to see so many, I thought it strange how they seem to be constantly squabbling in the garden, yet are in perfect harmony when it comes to roosting time.
