The world seems full of beautiful young ladies this past week or two. That's not by way of complaint, my camera is always keen to capture their radiant loveliness whenever it passes in front of my lens..
I would like to redress the balance and get some good shots of nice young men....... however most of the young men I've met lately are just scruffs with no concept of sartorial elegance whatsoever.
Having just come back from an alternative fashion show in London I was very disappointed that there were no male models on the catwalk at all and nothing of any interest to us alternative type blokes on any of the suppliers stands.
I have to say that us blokes are currently being poorly served by both the mainstream and the alternative fashion market. Being someone who is a bit on the flamboyant side and likes to wear clothing that is a little different and a bit interesting, I struggle to find anything that would be seen dead in at present.
There have been many eras in the past when men's fashion was alive and vibrant. in the 60's with hippies and psychedelia, the late 70's with punks and mods everywhere, the 80's where the new romantics and Adam Ant set the standards for interesting and creative couture. as far as I can see there has been nothing much new, exciting or with even the slightest hint of flamboyance for the past 30 years other than steampunk which now seems dead in the water.
So come on all you clothing designers get your fingers out and bring on the revolution in men's apparel that so many of us are desperately waiting for.
Until that happens I suppose I will have continue in my usual piratical garb.
