Lost

We seem to have lost a whole generation who have been sucked into a virtual world and who no longer seem able to engage with reality. They have friends they have never met, they lead vicarious lives fuelled by other people's experiences and other peoples amusing cats. Re-posting second hand sentiments, jokes and lifestyle advice they have no intention of following themselves.

Is it just me? or do others feel disturbed that there are thousands of people who's job is to use psychological tricks, traps and techniques to write software aimed entirely at keeping people permanently absorbed and transfixed by their phones. They seem to be doing a very good job of it too.

And no, I don't own a mobile phone. That is a lifestyle choice I have made. :)

In the end, it's all about money and the advertising revenues. Some will say that I'm just getting old and that I'm a Luddite who refuses to embrace new technology (which is far from the truth. as I do wholeheartedly embrace technology that benefits me)...... but at least this old Luddite lives his life first hand on the big screen of life, with 360 degree vision, high definition surround sound, touch, feel, smell and emotion.
So well put - although must admit I have been partially sucked in to this world!

Well said
I agree...
I do have a mobile but I try not to have my head stuck in it constantly - I walk through the streets smiling at people not a device
Social media is very antisocial in my opinion

I will add to your list that it is also about control. What better way to control minds but through an iphone. I don't have an iphone either and feel more in touch with my surroundings than those with their heads down ever will. Great shot :)

Very true, sad for them! There again I do like how in touch with friends & family I am now!

@happypat I can manage all that with 20 mins on facebook on my laptop each morning.

A lot of truth in what you have said. Real relationships with family, friends and community are losing out by our love affair with the virtual world. I love my smart phone, but we have to be careful it is a tool and doesn't rule us!
