I was walking from Little Italy toward Greektown for a dinner for one of our job candidates. I spotted this view as I was crossing over the UIC-Halstead "L" line ("L" stands for Elevated, which is the name for our subway system -- elevated when it circles the downtown area called the Loop, underground in the rest of the city, and above ground as it heads out to the suburbs). My get-pushed challenge this week is a street scene. A little closer than yesterday's lone walker, you can see people on the platform. I liked the parallel lines of the subway, the highway going east, and the line of cars on the ramp to the highway that heads north.
@melissapike Thanks! I was just about to tag you so you'd know I posted. I'm getting closer to people -- a funny story about that today I was going to share with you. A group of guys in yellow warning jackets with snow shovels and brooms were in front of the L stop earlier in the day. It looked really cool to see them clearing the sidewalk of snow and ice, so I started snapping away -- thrilled with my luck at having a camera with me. Until a sheriff came up and told me to stop taking photos of the 'offenders' and delete the photos immediately! I'd been taking pictures of a work crew from the local jail -- no wonder they were so friendly!
Taffy - great story! how funny to get into people shots and have that be outcome. Now I want to see them! I loved the sharpness of the building and the lighting is perfect.
@vankrey Thanks Michael. I actually bought a point-and-shoot so that I could do less intrusive shots (my husband used it as further evidence of my growing addiction: "Really? You need a special camera for candid street shots?"). So I can't take much credit for the shots with it as I'm still learning the manual settings and this was on Auto. But I appreciate the kind comment! I did keep one of the street cleaning photos, but figure I probably shouldn't post any time soon.
What a perfect shot! The lighting of the people waiting at the El stop, the lights of the cars on the ramp, the blur of the headlight coming toward you on the highway, the readable signs well lit, and the spectacular view of the city! Beautifully captured.
As for your story, I want in on the secret viewing. Great story.
Great shot Taffy! I always like night shots showing the lights in the skyscrapers, and this is a super example. Since I started this project i'm constantly assessing angles and povs. You found a great one.
Outstanding! Everything is so sharp, even the people, despite the long exposure. I love that deep blue sky and the line of brakelights compared to the empty route downtown.
I can't believe you were told to delete your photos! I hope the next batch is legal!
@topcat@kerristephens@kimshots@danielwsc@anwan Thanks for your positive comments! Daniel and Anwan -- it's fun, I think, to see others who know the city or live here and their choices. This one is 'my' common view of the city -- it was such a great night for photos here last night!
Thanks!

Thanks for the kind comment! It's fun photographing the city and I want to try more wide angle work in the upcoming months.

@boatpainter Thank you Janet. To me, it will always be the Sears Tower!
