It's quite rare for me to plan out a shot in advance, much less since this winter. But, I've been watching these two brown clusters for awhile. In their prime last fall, they remained on the branch -- surviving a winter of snow, ice, and storms. I had planned to photograph them in spring, but wasn't sure what I'd do. About a week ago, I saw this little green bud coming up between them. I've watched it grow over the past few days. This morning, it seemed right -- right light, right size -- to capture the idea of these two older mentors taking care to make sure the young green bud can become strong and take over. Mmm...maybe because today is graduation and Jim and I'll be there to see the next generation of researchers and educators take their places?
I also processed this in vintage and like it, but feel it loses the conceptual idea without the contrast of green with the dead leaves.
5/11 update: Yay! I woke up to see this on PP at the same time as the Union Station in Spring photo. I'm walking on air!! Thank you to all who have viewed, commented, and fav'd!
Very nice, Taffy - the DoF is really good - and I love the idea of the brown leaves seeing the green ones along.
Enjoyed reading about the accompanying thoughts.
I hope you had a nice day for graduation.
Lovely story! Love the idea and how you waited for just the right moment. Glad you decided to keep this image in full colour, you are right, it goes with your story of the Mentors :)
Well done, love the colors AND focus. Thanks for the kind words. I haven't been into taking shots for a while. Haven't taken my camera with me where ever I go and just haven't cared a lot about doing it. But now that it is spring and all......................woo hoo!!!!! I think working in the garden has perked me up some. Again thanks for the nice words.
Thank you so much for your kind and reinforcing words! I think having these weekly themes is so helpful to helping me think about the purposes for creating an image. This was my first really conscious try at a concept. @vskolnik@havrotb@barbsmith@espyetta And, Vee, Barbara, Barb, and Mary Beth, thank you so much for the fav! Icing on the cake!
This is beautiful Taffy .... The juxtaposition of old and dying welcoming and protecting new growth is beautiful. I haven't tried any of the weekly themes but think I will have a try now....!
@jackie8 Thanks Jackie! I don't always respond to a theme, but sometimes it has helped push me to think about something I'm doing in a new way. That was the case with this one.
@seanoneill Thanks Sean -- I appreciate your comment. It's one of the real joys I have in my job. Keeps me young at heart!
@tajyob@breigh Thanks tajyob and Breigh! @danielwsc Thanks Daniel! It's good to see you online -- but I just checked and didn't see any new posts. I miss seeing yours and Annette's photos! Hope all is well. @pum71 Thanks so much Muriel.
Wonderful from concept to execution. I'm glad you left it in color- subject wise I don't think it says vintage. I also like how you waited for the right day rather than forcing the issue. And it's perfect for graduation!
