I think it's a dragonfly. The mad word for posting today is chatoyant, an adjective that captures a changeable luster. I thought this insect's wings and the reflections that kept changing the color of its body could be described as chatoyant.

Posting may be unpredictable between tomorrow and Sunday -- hopefully not -- but if it is, I'll catch up when I get back. Leaving tomorrow afternoon to go to Buffalo (via a night in Traverse City) to give a talk on Saturday, and they've planned a photo walk for me Saturday afternoon! Hoping fog (the lack of it) will allow me off and on the island with no hassles.
@bobfoto@ness50@darylo@38dcmoder Thanks Jason, Vanessa, Daryl, and Dawn, for confirming the dragonfly.
Daryl, the talk is at SUNY Buffalo for a conference for educators--talking about school change that is teacher driven but able to address current mandates. A tricky business these days.
@kareenking@yaorenliu Thanks Kareen and Yao -- I do feel lucky that there are so many opportunities for photography here. @jodimuli Thanks Jodi! They are fairly common here, but move so fast they are hard to capture.
@kazlamont Thanks for the kind words on the photo and wish for safe travels -- while not far, it's 3 planes, and a one hour drive to get to a commercial airport once I fly off the island. Then the whole thing in reverse Sunday morning!
@archaeofrog Thanks Katie! Yep, the joys of travel when on Beaver Island. I'm at ORD now, waiting for third flight in the past two days. Then I get to do it all over again on Sunday. As long as I have internet, I'm happy!
@stimuloog Thanks Marloes -- and not being to personal at all to ask about the talk! It's part of a conference at a university in Buffalo, focusing on educational reform. I get to talk about work we've been doing in public and private schools in the US. Always fun, and I'll get to see two of my former students, which I'm looking forward to.
Have a great trip and hope your photo walk goes well. This dragonfly is a good post for chatoyant. I wanted to post for that word, but my 365 meet up pics demanded my attention for posting instead.
Taffy...it was my quest today to find a dragon fly. We went to a lake that has many..most are very small but did see some nice ones ..that would not light anywhere. I did get one "descent" shot...nothing like this. Did not have a macro lens and could not get close enough. May post it because he was pretty...it's what I got. I haven't gone through all my photos yet, so not sure. Just wanted you to know that you are an inspiration to me!!!
@eyesmile Gena, that is so nice of you to say! It makes me feel great! To get this shot, I must have taken about 30 and deleted most of them for being blurry. So there is a huge element of luck -- and having a macro. When I've tried with a zoom, I haven't been as happy with it.
@jankoos@boxplayer Thanks so much Jan and BP! I just kept waiting for it to fly into my 'zone' and it finally did. I must have snapped dozens of images to hopefully get a clear one.

Many many thanks Pam, Barb, TSW, and Ana!
