I've been saving processing of one of my photos from Saturday's trip to Niagara Falls outside Buffalo, NY, to use for black & white Wednesday. I processed this in HDR first (using only one photo) to sharpen the water and the bridge lines. Then, I imported into Silver Efex to get the monochrome look that would bring out all the different textures. I like that this photo could have been taken anytime -- I tried to deemphasize the buildings on the Canadian side that we can see from the U.S. side. I did take photos today but mostly document type as we have friends visiting and don't think I'll have too much time to do more tonite as it has been subtly suggested (person to remain nameless) that I'm ignoring our guests!
Update...all have gone to sleep and I decided to do something bright, abstract, and cheerful in contrast to the photo above, using my newly downloaded Tiny Planet app. If you have time, I wonder what you think of the result... http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-07-03
AND most of all, thank you so much for all the wonderful things you wrote about my rainbow over Niagara shot. It is in the top 5 for the weekly theme, 'a sight to behold' and I'm overwhelmed. It's such a special honor and I'm just thrilled.
Wow what a fabulous capture and great processing Taffy! It's very dramatic and has the feel of an old photo! Sometimes other things just have to be the priority, have fun with your visitors.
Fantastic composition and amazing processing! It looks like one of those photos hanged on the wall in the 'Cave of the mist'.I agree -timeless image!Fav for me!
Thank you all for the wonderful comments, responses, and faves. It was fun trying to create the old time feel and I appreciated your notes about that. I also am so sorry to be doing mass thank-you's lately, but I want to spend time on your photos so am putting all the time I can into that instead of writing individual notes.
@amrita21 I was so happy to see it floating there as I was about to shoot. I wish we'd had the time to go on it. The day was perfect for it and when I saw folks coming off it, it's clear they'd had a great time!
@rachelwithey I can't recommend it highly enough -- it's opened my eyes to all kinds of ways of thinking about and representing monochrome images. Still a lot to learn about how to use it effectively, but you can use the basics almost immediately.
@colie@hettie@wendyhgill Thanks Colie, Hettie, and Wendy for the favs for this. I really appreciate it -- especially on a shot that I sort of fav as well!
Thank you so much! I had so much fun with this shot turning it into an old-timey one. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks Darinka (missing Chicago, by the way -- enjoy!), Kareen, Kerri, Gena, Catherine, and MaryBeth for the faves!
