In the spirit of the Freeman Patterson August book club, I took photos today close to home trying to see things in new ways. We often get huge skies with interesting things going on and I hadn't yet figured out how to capture except on my iPhone with an app. I wanted to use my DSLR but hadn't figured out how to stitch photos together as I don't have a software program to do this. So, for this shot, I took several shots, then created a long skinny collage with minimal seams. Then, I exported the collage jpg and reloaded it into Aperture. I did a little correction, then processed in Nik Silver Efex Pro to convert to b&w. Comparing the two images, the color was a boring cliche image of pretty white clouds. But the b&w felt moodier and more ominous, and it captured the contrasting textures of the soft fluffy clouds and the harsher grasses with the water in between. Still not what I want, but at least I feel like I'm pushing myself a bit with the everyday things around me.

Quick update...it's 1:00 a.m. and I'm SOOO tired!! I'm so sorry I won't be able to comment on your photos from yesterday (much less tonite), but will catch up this weekend and look forward to it!
What a wonderful image Taffy! A lot of work to get there but worth it in the end. Get the software as it is so much easier to stitch a pano! I love the moodiness of the B&W - great processing and deserves a Fav!
What a beautiful image, Taffy! I love the panoramic view and the B&W processing. Sounds like so much work but a great end result. Well done, as always!
Love these coulds in b&w, but gosh the amount of time and work you put in here but it was time well spend cos this is gorgeous panorama view. Seeing the things close to home in a different light is the hardest part, been trying that myself too.
Thank you all so much for your encouragement on this shot. It did take a bit of time to get it together and I liked it, but reading your comments was very encouraging!
Pam, what software would you recommend?
@steampowered Thanks so much Paul! I always value your response to my photos so you've just made my evening! A very rainy one with so many clouds it's just solid gray. No eating outside or cloud viewing tonite!
@dtigani@colie Thanks so much David and Colie. I always appreciate your visits and comments. You've both been away a bit! Colie, thanks so much for the fav, too!
Just catching up on your photos--so sorry! I really love this! I have no idea how to stitch either, but I'm very impressed with your work here! Did you use a tripod as well? You are my go to for skies (city or rural now), and I think this is rather dramatic and spectacular. Fav, for sure
@darylo Thanks for the fav, and the kind comments, Daryl! I just did a handheld for this, and then created a collage using picmonkey on my computer. THEN, rather than stitch, I just put the photos so close to each other that they overlapped to 'stitch' which is not the best way to do it. I hadn't realized til you pointed it out awhile ago how into skies I am! Thanks for be so observant!
