Thank you for your wonderful response to my skyscrapers shot from yesterday! It has been on PP today which is very exciting. I really appreciate your visits and comments on it.
This shot was taken yesterday, walking under the tracks of the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) El (or L, for elevated). This section (the Brown Line) forms a loop around the downtown -- thus the name of the business district called the Chicago Loop.
Taken handheld, bracketed three shots, using my 14-24mm at its widest mm. Processed using Photomatix, then adjusted the too exaggerated angles using PT Lens, and reduced saturation using Aperture color sliders.
I think I can see Clint Eastwood over there hiding and hoping to catch this racing car that you are standing in front of! Help! Love the dappled light!
Wonderful scene which is familiar to us from the movies! Love the dappled light! I love my tours around Chicago with you! So interesting! I've not heard of PT lens before - looks like it does a good job correcting angles. Fav!
Taffy, as I was scrolling down looking at the 365 page, I saw the top of this photo and immediately thought this is one of Taffy's shots! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that I was right. This shot has so many things going for it. Very Nicely Done!
Great perspective, except that it makes me home you were leaning out the back of your car while someone was driving it and that you weren't standing in the middle of the street!
one does wonder where you might have been standing!!! And it's always fascinating to me how you get all these gorgeous pictures in a crowded bustling city that has been swept clean of its scurrying inhabitants.
Taffy, I'm not really comfortable in big cities, but your photos make me wonder if I could tolerate being in Chicago for at least a few days to see the city along with you. :-) (And, like @thirdjoe said, I too, recognized it as one of your photos before I ever saw your name below it.)
You are becoming a pro getting natural looking Photomatix results! But what is really astonishing is the total lack of WA distortion after PT Lens...I'll have to investigate that!
I like the warm color of the El contrasting with the silvery look of nearly everything else in the scene. You are so proficient at getting the end product you want!
@pamknowler Katie @archeofrog mentioned it and I've found it to be really helpful for wide angles where the distortion wasn't part of the goal. It's relatively inexpensive too -- I can't remember how I did it, but imagine I just googled PTLens -- I'm tagging Katie in this message as she may have sent me a URL, but I don't think so. Thanks for the comment, Pam, as always!
@andrewkru@thirdjoe Thanks for the comment about style, Andrew and Joe! I really appreciate it as it's something I'm still struggling to figure out. I know that I have recognizable subjects in my shots of Chicago, but have been wondering and working on how anyone would tell mine from hundreds of others. So great appreciated!
@jocasta@jyokota@busylady thanks for the kind comments, Jocasta, Junko, and Judith (must have been the J names time to comment!). I was walking across the street but not in danger (initially anyway) as the light was red for the cars driving toward me. But then, the light changed making my 3-bracketed shot a little unnerving. I wasn't sure it would be workable so was really pleased that it was as clear as this!
@bernicrumb Chicago is a great city for photography, a friendly city, and a manageable one for getting around as it's essentially a grid. I can't recommend it highly enough. And of course in addition to the wonderful sites, great restaurants, great theater, all thing things you'd want in a city. But I do love my summers on Beaver Island with a total population of 550 people and only one paved road!
I love this! Another wonderful site to capture! And oh my goodness, yes, I can spot your style immediately! I'm wondering how you'll present Beaver Island over the summer!
Love the processing.
Great shot. Lovely HDR.
