Thank you all for your wonderful comments on my Japan posts. The trip is continuing to be amazing (and we have internet for another day!). This is mostly a post-card type shot with no interpretation, but it's such an amazing place with these gates taking you on a path up and down the mountain. On the right is the year of the sponsor's contribution and on the left is the donor's name (usually a company given what it costs to support one). A fascinating place.
Check out Junko's from our adventure 'inside' -- between two rows of these: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2014-06-12
And Michael's from the other direction and with a lensbaby: http://365project.org/vankrey/just-one-more/2014-06-11
Great leading lines carrying my eye down the path! This reminds me of your post from a couple days ago- the tall colorful cylinders lining the pathway. Is that a common design that you've seen on your trip?
Perhaps it's a quirk of mine, but I love both songs in foreign languages and text like this where I can enjoy the beauty of the symbols without being bothered with the wording! (I've probably said that very poorly, but it's early morning...) And you know, most photographers would kill for "a postcard shot" like this and certainly enjoy being there!
@michaelelliott Thanks Michael! We were just talking about you (Junko and I were describing our wonderful photo walk in NYC) and saying it would have been fun to have you on this trip! LOTS of photography!
