One of my hopes in visiting Australia was to see Kangaroo in natural settings. Since being here, I've learned that kangaroo are to Australia as deer are to the midwest -- scary to run into at dusk and dangerous for cars. BUT, they are SO cute!!! Finally, yesterday in 'the Barossa' as it's called here (beautiful valley) I saw one in a park. I actually saw THREE -- mom, kid, and a huge dad. I loved the way this little one kept watching me, as he chomped on blades from a green plant.
Heading this morning to a national park near Adelaide with my friend, then off to Sydney for an overnight layover, then on to the horrid overseas flights home. A great trip, a wonderful country with wonderful people, and very special 365ers. I can't believe the trip is almost at an end. Looking forward to catching up on 365, sleeping in my own bed, but very sad to be leaving.
And a HUGE thank you for putting my shot of the Brisbane botanical garden dome on TT -- unexpected and greatly appreciated!
@maggiemae Thanks Maggiemae! Yes, lots of books on my Kindle -- indecision about which one to start since I just finished the last one. Love having choice, though. @karlow75 You have a beautiful country, Kane -- and wonderful people. @radiogirl Thanks for the fav!
Love the pose eating the grass. As a tourist I'm sure you were tempted to go over and give him a hug. Haha. Can't believe your trip is almost over. Safe flight.
My dream is to go to Australia and see a real live koala bear - let me know if you capture one of those (on your camera of course lol). Funny how some people take animals in their area for granted. I bet lots of people are jealous that we see deer as much as we do (although my car would tell you different after this past weekend)
So glad that you have encountered some of our wildlife. I am on catch up today as we have been in Sydney for a couple of days. I know now why we live 200 km north of Sydney. I couldn't cope with the traffic all the time.
Love your kangaroo shot! Isn't it fun to shoot animals in their natural habitat!? I've been doing just that for a couple weeks and absolutely loving every minute. Now I just need a little downtime so I can share them...
Great to get this close to them in the wild. I tried stalking them in Belair National Park but only got shots of the back of them retreating. Was it Belair Nat Park that you went to Taffy? My son and his family live on the edge of it.
@happysnapper65 This one was in the Barossa Valley and just a local park, but the ones I took just before leaving were at Cleland National Park and that was GREAT!! You have to go there, and also Adelaide at night. It's a photographer's dream. You should meet up with @silver_fox as we had a great time together.
@taffy we go to cleland every year with the children Taffy. Mount Lofty viewing platform nice for sunsets. It would be good to meet up with the Adelaide 365ers and will def get SA night shoot in next time. Did you have a tripod with you? Thinking I will take mine this time.
How cool to capture a kangaroo in it's natural environment, especially a cute on like this. Those long flights are a necessary evil aren't they. My husband went from the UK to Australia for two days once on a business trip - took him longer to get there and back! Crazy!
I have a couple folks I follow from Australia and it has always amused me at the way we look at each other's deer and kangaroo shots! Cute fellow-just had to fav him!
