Our mentoring group has been focused on street photography this month - an area quite new to me. I'm woefully behind on color and b&w with and without people, but am going to catch up with saved shots this weekend. Here's #1...b&w with people. This brightly pained piano has appeared outside a coffee shop in the middle of a major shopping district called "North Michigan Avenue" though this is a block west of the main drag.

I have been doing street photography as I could, and am finally getting to post some. I did post two from today for the b&w versions, one with and one without. Thanks for your patience this month!
What an extraordinary sight - a piano out in the middle of nowhere. This shot really appeals to me Taffy, lots to feast the eye upon and an untold tale that tickles the imagination. Well spotted, I like this kind of street photography.
Wow, what an excellent find! Great extra details from the shopping bags, to the Christmas tree, the sprinkling of snow, etc. Really well done all around!
Love this. There are a few of these around Portland and I saw one in the Oregon State University town of Corvallis. I think it is wonderful. Love your street capture. Well done!
Wonderful street photography.....there is so much to look at from the Christmas tree to the piano in the middle of a street, to the shoppers setting down their packages to play the piano, kind of surreal, and perfect in B&W. There was a piano like that in the middle of Washington Square Park in NYC, and it always brought a smile to my face....
Wow, what an amazing sight, with this piano outdoors. I love how the shopping bags are sitting next to the stool, and they are sitting there together. A fav.
I love the way these pianos appear and people just play them. There's one at St Pancras International station, and often there are people playing lively pieces, which makes for a great atmosphere.
What a great sight to see the piano outdoors and I love that the couple have stopped off after their shopping to tickle the ivories. A great story captured! This is the kind of street photography I like. I have seen a couple of pianos at St Pancras station with people playing - such a wonderful atmosphere! I wonder how long this one will survive the winter weather?
Love this street vignette. A pocket of music. I'm listening to piano Christmas music right now and therefore imagine they are playing some Vince Guaraldi in this photo.
@maggiemae Yet, this seemed to be not in great shape as a piano. When I walked by I couldn't tell if it was actually a player piano, or if it was just the case that some keys were not working as they should be. It was so cute to see the two of them intensely trying to make it work -- and they had to be tourists to have left their bags sitting behind them!
Street photography intrigues me yet I loathe the struggle it is to accomplish it. To find the opportunity for a shot like this is a real treasure! The B&W presentation is perfect I think, even tho the bright colors of the piano are missed. The imagination can paint those in well enough.
What a great find! I could almost imagine it being my two daughters! They would love such a find, by the way, and would provide a street concert on the spot! :)
@anazad511 These were the only two that sat down to play while I was in the coffee shop. The piano looks a little the worse for wear, despite the colorful paint job. The keys didn't look so great...the two young girls looked to be tourists, or possibly students.
