I took a shot from a very similar perspective of traffic during rush hour where the highway looks like a parking lot - http://365project.org/taffy/365/2014-11-21 - and several predicted light trails in my future. You were right - here is traffic that is flowing smoothly!
Fire saga updates -
Good things:
1. Adjuster has given 'bad company' an ultimatum to get us the inventory sheets and our goods or face consequences. They forwarded the art restoration list that they'd had since 11/18 - some of our pieces are being restored but it's not clear what is happening to ones not on that list. Supposedly a list of rest of things will be in our hands tomorrow.
2. We received full inventory list from the cleaners and invoice (yikes - even knowing insurance is covering this). Still wondering where many things are.
3. We are supposed to receive some things we'll need for our Chile trip - delivered tomorrow and we leave the next day. Cutting it close.
4. Fire started one month ago today and house was destroyed one month ago tomorrow. The time went by quickly.
Non-fire good things: Grading is almost done. New computer is functioning except for a few plug-ins (photomatix is weird), and has LR and PS on it...so I guess the not-so-good is having to learn those!
Not so good things...
1. Replacement Danbo still in his shipping box has been inadvertently tossed out with recycling cartons. I have been declared toxic to Danbos and may not be allowed to have another ever again. P3 and Little D are quite upset with me. Big Danbo is not yet out of his box and is now living in fear. Have promised to remove him and put in safe place, that this can't possible happen again and he'll be fine.
First, I am glad that things are moving at the least toward some sort of resolution for you regarding the fire. Now, this photo is spectacular, I never can tell how even light trails will come out. The trails in this photo are perfect. Amazing shot, Taffy. Got to Fav!
my gosh, I can not believe that after all you have been through a company can come along and make it worse than it was in the beginning. I sure hope it gets worked out soon! So sorry about Danbo!!!
@maggiemae@tonydebont Thanks so much for the visit, the kind comment, and the fav, Maggiemae and Tony. For some reason, the fav didn't get recorded, just FYI.
Super light trails, really shows a great contrast of people still working with all the parked cars and trying to get home. Sorry to hear about Danbo and hope you get the things you need for your Chile trip!
Lovely night cityscape. The light trails are lovely. Glad you are making some progress in recovering from your yucky fire, but so distressing about the recycling leaving with replacement Danbo. Your narrative was humorous, even though the subject is not. :(
Excellent light trails. I am really loving the scenes from your high rise. Not such good news on account of Danbo, I can understand P3's and LD's concern. :-) I doesn't seem like a month already. Although I got a book on LR5, it is quite intuitive, so I haven't finished reading it yet. PS is not at all intuitive, neither is GIMP, but I can find tutorials for everything I've done in GIMP so far.
What a beautiful image Taffy - love those light trails!! I think the news seems positive for you I just hope your things arrive for your trip to Chile. I hope this is a holiday and not more work. I think you and Jim need to get away - Chile sounds very exciting!! Safe journey and enjoy your trip!!
This is a stupendous image Taffy - I can't imagine what it must be like to have this as a daily view from your window. I think, however fraught it might be preparing, that getting away for a while is going to be a great and much needed restorative. Have fun... and relax.
@bill_fe It's now on my wish list for the holidays and my birthday coming up -- if I don't get it, I'll order for sure. This is by far the one book everyone recommends. So, I do think I have to have it!
@vignouse Thanks Richard. I feel very spoiled with this view as it changes by the day and sometimes the hour. And, right now am feeling like the trip is a terrible idea but I know once we are on the plane tomorrow, I'll be thrilled to be away and pretending we are leading a normal life!
@pamknowler Thanks Pam. This one is all for fun. It was supposed to be work at the beginning, but I gave that up as the timing was not good. And now that the trip is here, am so glad I'm not preparing a presentation on top of everything else!
Really like all those coloured light trails, it really is a wonderful view. I have Lightroom and I quite like it, although I'm pretty sure I'm only utilising a fraction of its capabilities so far!!! Hope you have a safe trip an manage to recharge your batteries!
Very nice night long exposure, the super wide view is quite cool! You will really enjoy LR I think. You're due for a really good break, look foward to hearing about it when it happens.
Wow Taffy, what a view you have. This is a great 'eye-in-the-sky' shot and the light trails are wonderful. The lens distortion of the tall buildings works very well. That is some city you live in. I'm so sorry to hear you're still having such hassles a month after the fire, must be unspeakably stressful for you and Jim. Just get yourselves on that plane to Chile and chillax. You've certainly earned a big rest. I'll be interested to hear how you find LR5, I'm still dithering about making the shift from Aperture, but have no excuses (bar inertia) now I've got my new computer up and running.
This is a beautiful photo. Really cool technique and well executed. Sorry to hear about Danbo. I can't believe it's been a month since the fire. So many things up in the air for you. I just started a few weeks ago with LR and find it very easy to use. I've not been able to get myself trained too much on post-processing so it must be fairly intuitive. I hope you like your new software. Enjoy your much needed break! Safe travels to Chile and back!
Wow and Wow. Too bad it took such a horrible event in order to get this capture. Hopefully Danbo and Danbo will find each other and live happily ever after. Have a great fun filled relaxing vacation, birthday and holiday. A new year is right around the corner .
ROFL, sorry from someone who also does this type of thing it (danbo situation) is funny. I agree with Kate, Lightroom was very easy to learn. PS was a little harder because it didn't work like Elements as much as I thought it would. But I am getting there. If this old lady can learn to use it a smart person like yourself should have no problems.
can't believe its been a month already! times goes by so fast, glad to hear there are so many good things happening. but sorry to hear about danbo!! Love this shot with all the light trails!
Excellent! Fav! Love the light trails! I sure hope you get things straightened out with the bad company soon. They sure din!t sound very trustworthy or efficient so sorry about Danbo replacement?
What a great shot, Taffy. You have such an awesome view. Too bad about this bad company. You wonder how on earth they are able to do the work they do as you are looking for honest and good as I would be. I hope Danbo will be ok. Sounds like a nice time to get away. Hope you have a great trip. FAV
Have been reading all your journals as have not had time till now. What a nightmare. I am very attached to my house filled (rather too full) of things I am very attached to so can really empathise with you. My son broke my little Danbo's arm socket recently and that was bad enough. He is 23 and should not have been fiddling. Has the Danbo no 2 surfaced or is that gone to. On the upside,I guess it will be very streamlined when you return with less possessions. I keep trying to get rid of things but do not manage well. 365 time does not help! My thought are with you over this New Year and hoping the New Year brings good news and you get back home and find some of those missing things.
@neatz Thanks for your kind message, Anita! Yes, I agree re learning to streamline possessions. It's very strange to think of never seen things again, and then figuring out which ones would actually matter a lot and thus worth focusing on getting back. So sad to read of Danbo's broken arm! I strongly recommend Dr. Super Glue! He worked to fix another Danbo on the site who lives in Barcelona -- that Danbo had a broken neck! It's clear that our poor toy-friends lead hard lives on this project!! All the best to you for a wonderful new year's eve and year ahead!

so sorry about Danbo - how very sad and very frustrating :(
on another note, i am sure you're gonna love LR and PS!
