Atacama Desert in Chili is the driest in the world and has been a fascinating place to visit. This morning took us ( @jyokota and her husband as Jim did not want to get up at 4:30 in the morning to get there by sunrise) to a crater with the largest geysers in South America -- with the cold air and the boiling water, steam went to heights of 30 feet or more. Photographing at sunrise was quite fantastic and it was hard to choose a single image.
Thank you for continuing to make such lovely comments on my posted images -- I do appreciate it and have read them all. There just hasn't been much time to process, post, or comment while away.
This is really beautiful... just a fascinating shot. Wonderful colors, textures, light. I love the way the steam contrasts and compliments the clouds. Such a fascinating location, too. So cool.
FAV !!! So spectacular in how you processed it to look so three-dimensionally REAL, yet at the same time other-worldly, which is how it felt to be there. (must admit to suddenly feeling a bit queasy remembering how I felt . . . ) Can't wait to upload and see my own photos, too. So glad we went!
FAV! so beautiful! I know what you mean about trying to post and comment while of vacation. I was so grateful to everyone for their faithfulness even when I was not able to spend much time on the computer.
This is such a wonderful picture.....I am FAVing it because it is a great shot, and also because I want to be able to see again since our attempt to get to the geysers was foiled! :-( Yes, we woke up at the crack of dawn, and yes, it was extremely cold, and our vehicle broke down halfway up to the geysers, and we ended up missing out on the experience. Very frustrating as we were stuck down there watching others go up and then come down ecstatic at what they had seen!
@panthora What an awful story to read!! I can imagine it happening though, given those roads. It really was a magical looking site, though in some ways, I think I appreciated it even more when I was home looking at the images. I was so tired when we got there!! But driving in and then seeing these ghostly apparitions was quite an experience. I hope you get there again to see it, though given the challenge of getting there...it must be sad!
This is such an awesome photo, Taffy. I love the 3D look from the geyser. Great detail in the clouds too. Well worth getting up so early to capture this. I bet it was awesome to see. I have seen small geysers as a girl in No Ca and thought those were cool. Sure wish we had digital back then. FAV.
@sailingmusic We were up at 4:30 to catch the van at 5:00 (but then they didn't leave til 5:30), drove about 1 and a half hours, and probably were there about 7:00. Sun was behind the mountain, but the sky was light - past the morning color, sadly. I am so not a morning person, but this was really worth it. Thanks for the fav, Myrna!
Congrats Christmas no 1 taffy!! Well deserved. What a perfect end to your holidays. Hope progress gets swiftly back under way for you once holidays over.

Thanks for your kind words re TT! It was VERY exciting to see it up there and made the 4:30 a.m. wake-up even more worth it! I'm more used to staying up til 4:30 than arising at that time!
@genesis_one Thanks Corrie -- glad to see you are coming back! I'm going to have to shift focus a bit with Aperture running out of support via Apple. I'm committed to figuring out Lightroom, but think it will take months to get all my photos reorganized into a new system, not just learn to process using it. But I hope to still post on some kind of schedule...and comment when I can.
