One of my students from China received a prestigious fellowship to complete her studies here. I had written her support letter and she invited me to the ceremony as her guest. She received her certificate and a red rose, which she, in turn gave to me. I wanted something to mark the event in my calendar. A great side thing, it turns out she's quite into photography but left her charger at home in China so hadn't been taking photos here. I hope I've convinced her to order an inexpensive one on ebay so we can begin doing some photo walks together and also to join 365. Always good for our grad students to try to live a more balanced life!
How beautiful to celebrate your visiting student, and how lovely of her to share the meaningful moment with you! She has no idea how warmly she'd be welcomed in this community, given her good connections in the "introduction phase"! (I get all shaky just thinking about leaving my camera charger half a world away! Yes, do coach her in ebay shopping!)
I cannot believe she had not been taking pictures because of a missing charger! I hope she gets one soon, and joins our little group! Beautiful shot of this rose...and, she sounds like an extremely thoughtful and appreciative person.
