The City Lies Ahead by taffy

The City Lies Ahead

Thanks for all the interesting comments on my graffiti shot posted yesterday. I enjoyed reading all your different views on the 'why' of graffiti as well as your personal preference -- enjoying it as art to hating it for marring properties. Made for interesting reading/thinking.
This is from bracketing three shots, when Jim cooperatively stopped the car in the middle of the tracks for me to take the shot safely (he watched for trains while I took the shot). Processed using Photomatix, then turned to b&w in Silver Efex, then used Color Efex to create the bi-tonal look. All while watching our Blackhawks lose tonight in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Feeling bleak in the city at the moment so the image was designed to capture that.

This is just fantastic - such interesting and awesome processing (sorry that your team lost - I'm spending the evening watching Jurassic Park for the 30th something time..)

Oh, this is very cool. Sorry about the Blackhawks... again! :( Really wonderful lines and structures, enhanced by your intricate and effective processing.

Tom
Great pov, clarity and processinmg
June 7th, 2015
Super shot! I love reading about your processing methods. I'll probably never get to that level but is fascinating nonetheless.
June 7th, 2015
@fntngrma Thanks Rosan. I knew NOTHING about processing when I started 365, literally nothing. And mostly used auto even in my DSLR. And I'm not a techie person. So if I could learn this stuff (over 2 and 1/2 years), anyone can!
June 7th, 2015
Great pov

June 7th, 2015
Sorry you're feeling so bleak taffy. Hope you get to spend some restorative time of rest soon. Fabulous processing.

Instant fave for the lines.
June 7th, 2015
Sorry about your lose but next year maybe better. However this picture is a winner.
June 7th, 2015
I really love the way the railway lines gather the image and send your eyes forward to the picture. Fabulous, fav.

June 7th, 2015
Spectacular leading lines and a wonderful sky. FAV
June 7th, 2015
@joansmor Oh, I think I overstated the loss. It was just game 2, so hope is not lost. They're just tied 1-1 in games with up to 5 more to go. We just wanted a sweep! Thanks for the visit.
June 7th, 2015
@taffy Can you tell I don't follow - only pay attention to it at all if the Bruins are playing. Right now I want the guy with the adorable little girl to win basketball so I can see her more. Am I bad.
June 7th, 2015
@joansmor I admit much of my attention is through osmosis. For example, Jim has had morning sports radio on for over an hour. I've more information on analyzing what happened in last night's game than I would have ever sought myself (they were tired from the series with the Ducks, of course the opponents (newish team compared to Hawks) got their act together by game two as they were playing at home, etc. Now I'm learning about the Giants as a 'dangerous team' who can do something to the Cubs' progress. Never know what to do with all this information!

Nice pov. and a good choice of colour.
June 7th, 2015
Love what you've done with this shot. To be in the city instead of Beaver Island and watching Black hawks lose must be hard
June 7th, 2015
lovely lines and tones! have you tried using the lightroom split tones functionality as yet?
June 7th, 2015
It does convey a rather desolate feeling, Taffy, barren, bleak, austere, no human presence. Super editing though:) Fav.
June 7th, 2015
Yes it certainly does have a bit of a bleak feel! Very nice pov, comp and processing.
June 7th, 2015
Fabulous POV - love those lines
June 7th, 2015
Hmmmm- not sure I get 100% bleak from this- but that's me- always looking for the positive! I really like the perspective!
June 7th, 2015
Brilliant shot...nice tones & lines.
June 8th, 2015
@northy Duh...I have used the split tone and it would have made this processing a whole lot simpler! I just didn't think about it...oh well. Good reminder!
June 8th, 2015
Nice low pov and processing, I don't do any bracketing so will have to start........the detail you achieve is awesome!
